Tea with Candy: How to get fit with my secret weapon: FitTea Detox

Candy WashingtonComment

Hi lovelies,

During today's “Tea with Candy” I reveal how to get and stay fit and my three secret weapons for living a happy and healthy lifestyle.

Happy and healthy secret weapon #1: Less carbs and more green, leafy vegetables and fresh fruit.

This one isn't so much a secret but definitely worth repeating. I feel lighter and more energized when I bypass a morning bagel and opt for a grapefruit and side of cottage cheese instead.

Happy and healthy secret weapon #2: Make exercise fun! Dance your way to a lean and fit body.

Although I do like to hit the gym and run outside when it's nice out, I get tired of the hitting the treadmill and pavement over and over again. So now when I want to add some excitement to my workout routine, I slip on my headphones, turn up my tunes, and just dance. The time flies, my heart is pumping, sweat is flowing, and I just feel inspired and happy.

Happy and healthy secret weapon #3: Start your day with FitTea Detox.

Every morning I have a cup of FitTea Detox. It promises that if you, "Give us a few weeks and we'll give you a new waistline.” It's an all-natural tea that gives me energy, boosts my metabolism, aids in my digestive health, and boosts fat-loss naturally in some of my target areas.

Since I'm always on-the-go, FitTea Detox also helps me from getting sick and worn out as it helps me to build a rock-solid immune system and it super charges and boosts my overall immune system and gives me more energy. I drink FitTea Detox both warm and cold. Its ingredients allow for fast-working and natural detox and have natural antioxidants and include: organic green tea, oolong Wu Yi, organic Rooibos, ginger, pomegranate, guarana, birch, Stevia, corn and honey powder. There's also a caffeine-free option.

Tea with Candy: How to dress up jeans and rock denim

Candy WashingtonComment

Hi lovelies,

Ever wonder how to dress up a pair of jeans? I reveal 4 easy ways to stay chic and professional at work or out-on-the-town while rocking your denim.

How to dress up jeans and rock your denim

Dress up tip #1: Rock your denim with heels.
It automatically takes your outfit from casual to chic while elongating your legs.

candy washington_jeans_heels

Dress up tip #2: Rock your denim with a blazer.
When you wear a blazer it makes any outfit a bit more polished and professional. A tailored blazer is best.

Dress up tip #3: Rock your denim with a tucked-in button-up shirt and a leather belt.
Lisa Vanderpump from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Vanderpump Rules rocks this look the best. Opt for solid colored button-up shirt tucked in and with a wide belt. My favorite look is a white or pastel shirt (green, blue, or pink) with a chocolate brown leather belt.

Dress up tip #4: Rock a statement necklace with your jeans.
The best way to jazz up any outfit is with a signature standout piece of jewelry and when it comes to casual denim the best way to add a touch of sophistication is with a statement necklace.

Tea with Candy: How to deal with a manchild

Candy WashingtonComment

Hi lovelies,

Today's "Tea with Candy" addresses how to deal with a friend that is still a manchild but is seeking your help in getting hooked up with one of your friends. Read Susan's question below and check out my video for my answer on how to deal with a manchild - my answer might surprise you.

Hi Candy,

My friend is a complete manchild. He drinks too much when we go out, he's sleeping with multiple girls, and the girls that he does date he pretty much treats like crap. He says that he wants to find a wife and settled down but he still acts like a frat boy. What do I say when he asks me to set him up with my friends who are way too good to be put through the wringer by this manchild?

Help!

Tea with Candy: How to find your personal style

Candy WashingtonComment

Hi lovelies,

I received the question below on how to find your personal style. Watch my video or read below for my 3 easy tricks to finding your inner fashionista.

Dear Candy,

How do I start shopping and looking for clothes to update my wardrobe if I don't have an eye for fashion and style? How do I find my own personal look?

Sincerely,
Kim from San Francisco

Trick #1: Make a mood board

Pick up some of your favorite magazines, both fashion and non-fashion related, and rip out the ads, pictures, photos, and quotes that jump out to you. Pin them up on a board and then review to see any common themes - do you gravitate the color red? Florals? Black and white? Based on the common threads in your mood board, you can start to see trends on what can make up your own personal style and then incorporate them into your look. This also works when you're trying to decorate a home or an apartment. You can also create a cool mood board online using  Pinterest.

Trick #2: Find a style buddy

Do you have a friend that always looks great and really owns her own personal style? Ask her to be your shopping and style buddy, even if your styles aren't similar, she could use her fashion eye to help guide you on putting together different looks and finding your own unique look. Soon you won't even need the shopping companion. but shopping is always more fun with company.

Trick #3: Take risks and try out different things

Get outside of your style comfort zone and try out different looks, styles, and trends. Don't think you can pull off skinny jeans? You never know until you try. Go shopping and try on clothes that you would usually skip over. You might be surprised at what colors, styles, and fits actually look best on you. This way you can start to incorporate current trends and different looks into your wardrobe - the main trick is always wear what makes you feel the most confident and comfortable.

Coffee chat with Robert Galinsky: 7 Insights for building your brand and making connections

Candy WashingtonComment
candy washington_robert galinsky

Hi lovelies,

I had the pleasure of grabbing coffee with social media expert, motivational speaker, author, and founder of New York Reality TV School and Kuhoots, Robert Galinsky.

Did I mention he's a coffee muse, TEDxTeen presenter, and is working on a hot new musical, "Coffee Crazy"? I picked up a few gems on how to build your online presence, personal brand, and build connections. Check them out below!

Robert's Top 7 Insights:

  • Use the word, "I" rather than "you" when speaking about your work and accomplishments. It allows you to own your own experience and power, and people will respond to you differently.
  • You will meet the best people and contacts at cocktail parties. Remember: on the nights that you don't want to go out are usually the ones that you end up meeting the most important people. (We met at the launch party of The Real Housewives of New York's Aviva Drescher's new book, Leggy Blonde.)
  • Email people like a normal person - not like you are begging or pitching. Remember the value that you have to give.
  • There's a lot of competition out there - laser in on what you uniquely offer. How do you stand out from the rest?
  • If you want to pitch a TV show, start with creating your own mini viral videos - shoot them on your iPhone and then share on YouTube. They can serve as pilot versions of your show.
  • Make sure to have a service behind whatever it is that you are selling - can your customer easily download, buy, or connect with your service?
  • There's less of a stigma around "reality TV" these days, but be sure you know what your purpose is for doing a reality show - what's the end game? Where will it take you?

Blonde ambition

Shop items inspired by my look

Hi lovelies,

I've officially decided to split my time between Atlanta (aka "The New Hollywood") and NYC. Given the recent changes I thought I would shake things up a bit and go blonde - new city, new look. What do you all think about the new 'do? Additionally, spring has finally sprung and there's nothing else that I love to rock more than a light black leather and mixed fabrication jacket, a sheer nude dress, black tights, and black booties. Shop the look above and there's so much more to come!

New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014 Recap

Candy WashingtonComment

New York Fashion Week came in by storm, with the snowstorms taking over the streets of New York City and with fashion shows, presentations, and parties. Below is a recap of the must-attend events from fashion week.

Marc Jacobs

candy_washington_marc_jacobs_fall_winter_2014_2015_collection_New_York_Fashion_Week1.jpg
Candy_Washington_Kendall-Jenner-Wears-Sheer-Marc-Jacob-Fashion-Week.jpg

The designer that needs no introduction, pulled it off again and closed New York Fashion Week with a bang. Marc Jacob’s fall/winter collection went back to his grunge roots that made him a star in the first place. Not to mention all-of-the buzz around Kendall Jenner’s see-through shirt.

Cynthia Rowley

Cynthia Rowley’s presentation was simply amazing and I loved every piece. My words will fail, so I leave it to the designer herself to describe the collection:

“Fashion evolves at such a fast pace, and I'm always interested in exploring fresh new ways to show the collection. We shot the looks ahead of time so that when people arrived at the Diamond Horseshoe they had already seen the collection. We presented a short film we made in an environment that was a visual feast for all.

A moonbow motif runs throughout the collection. It seemed so optimistic, happy and romantic at the same time. I describe the collection as sporty glamorous with bonded piques, embellished rainbows, stain leaf appliqués and bonded cashmere cardigans that are mixed with polished leather culottes and layered sweaters that are like puzzle pieces that fit together.“ - Cynthia Rowley

Elements Showcase

Indie_Lee_elements_showcase_candy_washington.JPG

Kicking off fashion week was the Elements Showcase, your one-stop for up-and-coming breakthrough beauty, health, and lifestyle brands. My favorite booth this year was Indie Lee, “an eco-friendly skincare collection comprised of the finest all-natural ingredients around the world, the line is designed to enhance the face and body with gratifying green glamour and allows you to unleash your inner and outer beauty by combining style and sustainability without sacrifice.” The founder, Indie Lee has an amazing story of surviving a brain tumor to bring happiness and joy to women around the world, one beauty product at a time.

Wildfox

Wildfox Couture was one of my favorite shows and not just because they gave out yummy cupcakes before the show. Every piece was fun and flirty and something that I would actually wear in real life from the rugged yet comfy sweaters to the throwback overalls and hipster dresses. Nicky Hilton graced the front row and every blogger to know was there.

Heather Lawton

One of the most rewarding things about fashion week is finding the next big thing. After leaving Heather Lawton’s fashion presentation, I was convinced that I had. The clothes were sexy and provocative while being relatable and told a story of a girl who is fun, fearless, and ready to stir the pot. I’m excited to watch her fashion star rise.

Designer spotlight: Maureen Vorswijk of Mauke V Jewelry

Candy WashingtonComment

Hi lovelies,

I had the pleasure of interviewing Maureen Vorswijk, the designer behind Mauke V jewelry. Read on for her insights on her collection, why she doesn't care about fashion trends, and the inspiration behind her designs.

Candy Washington: What's the inspiration behind your jewelry line?

Maureen Vorswijk: The challenge to create timeless and unique pieces for women which will make them feel feminime, strong and confident when they wear my pieces, and the challenge to reach that goal without going with the masses by staying true to myself when designing.

CW: What are some of your favorite pieces?

MV: Difficult question I love them all. If I have to choose it will be Choker Alter Ego choker and Cuff, Earring Play it Rough, choker Brocante and choker Viking.

CW: What are some trends in accessories and jewelry for 2014?

MV: Honestly I don't follow trends most of the time, my experience is that it brings confusion and that has an impact on my creativity. So I don't really know what the trends are for 2014.

xo,

Candy

My top selections from Mauke V:

My Alter-Ego Collection

The collection My Alter-Ego tells a story about a woman who show one version of herself but when looking in her eyes you might be able to see that there is something about her, there is so much more. Imagine you are the one who uncover her secret and find the other version(s) of herself, her Alter-Ego(s) which is asking for a voice.

Choker Raven

Cuff Dominique Brass

Choker Brocante

Afrik & Silver Collection

The Afrik & Silver Collection incorporates all my experiences in life. Memories of my childhood, family, my trips to Suriname and Nigeria played a major role during the designing process.
