What You Need To Know About Permanent Makeup

Candy WashingtonComment

Hi lovelies,

Many people find that choosing permanent makeup is the right option for them and can save them time and money over the years. However, like with any other beauty treatment or tattoo procedure, you need to know precisely what getting permanent makeup involves ensuring it is the right option for you.

What is Permanent Makeup?

But, what exactly is permanent makeup, and how does it work? Additionally known as "cosmetic tattooing," "derma pigmentation," or "micro-pigmentation," the treatment includes implanting pigment into the upper layer of skin around the eyes, brows, and lips to create a more natural appearance. It can be used to camouflage scars, burns, vitiligo, and other skin imperfections and repair some face concerns.

How Is Permanent Makeup Applied?

For the majority of the twentieth century, tattoo artists employed the same tattooing techniques to create both traditional tattoos (think: forearm designs, tribal patterns and meanings, hearts, animals and more) and permanent makeup (think: eyeliner and lipstick). The problem was that putting pigments deeply into the skin frequently resulted in harsh-looking effects that faded and became fuzzy over time.

Permanent makeup artists have been perfecting an updated approach over the last few decades that combines reformulated pigments with more delicate blades and a simple application technique to produce a more natural-looking (but temporary) result. Permanent makeup artists use a microblading and shading technique. The term "semi-permanent makeup" is used to describe today's cosmetic tattooing, which is derived from this.

The basic technique for different procedures can differ from treatment to treatment, but the application's basis remains the same to get the desired results.

How Long Does Permanent Makeup Last?

In today's world, the lifespan of cosmetic tattoos varies, although most estimates place the result's duration between one and three years (therefore, semi-permanent is a more accurate term). The body metabolises pigment in various ways, and because the ink is applied so near the skin's surface, it will eventually fade. The effect is that routine touch-ups are necessary.

It is worth knowing that red lips, for example, doesn't initially mean bright red lips forever, the same when you have Ombré brows too. The colour will appear darker for four to seven days as the skin recovers. Approximately 50%-60% lighter than the first pigment, the final hue appears four weeks later.

Find The Right Technician

The following three considerations should be considered while selecting an artist: safety, artistry, and technique. If you don't have the safety of a highly skilled and expert technician, you may find yourself at a disadvantage in your trip; if you don't have the artistry, the results may be disfiguring; and if you have the safety and artistry but not the skill, your tattooed areas may appear uneven and fade with time.

The following points can help you to look deeper into your technician's history and qualifications;

  • Inquire about certifications and licences - Depend on more than one piece of paper. Taking a certification class isn't enough.

  • Study the salon - Third-party review sites (like Google and Yelp) can tell you a lot about the possible work quality. Some technicians only work with dermatologists and plastic surgeons, proving their expertise.

  • Identify competitors - Business is mainly done via word of mouth.  It's even better if the clientele includes happy customers.

  • View before and after images - Specialists advise individuals to look critically at before and after photos. Many people want to look like a beautiful model with brows done. They should look at photographs of people with similar features.

Can Anyone Have Permanent Makeup Applied?

The use of permanent cosmetics should be avoided by those who are allergic to any of the compounds used during the procedure, including numbing agents and pigments. Cosmetic tattoos are not available to clients who cannot take a break from blood-thinning medications and those who have problems with blood clotting or healing. A person who scars easily or is predisposed to keloids is not a good candidate for this treatment. People with impaired immune systems are also unsuitable for this occupation.

Because hormonal changes can interfere with the healing process, it is typically recommended that pregnant women refrain from wearing permanent makeup. Additionally, younger patients should consider delaying any permanent cosmetics surgery until they are older.

Can You Remove Permanent Makeup?

The short answer is: Sometimes. If it has been a while since your treatment, there are solutions for speeding up the fading process and ultimately getting rid of the pigment - however, neither option is guaranteed. It would help if you avoided lasers to remove the makeup as this will cause permanent damage.

If you are unhappy with the results, there are a few actions you can take to once you have had the treatment, including;

  • Waiting - remember, the colour will settle after a few weeks, and the pigmentation will change, meaning the paint won't be the same in a few weeks, and you might prefer this change.

  • Sweat - sweat can jump-start the fading process if proper care isn't taken to preserve the colour of the makeup. Swimming in salt water, using a sauna and sweating it out in the gym can help a brand new tattoo fade quicker than usual.

  • Topical Creams - Many different topical creams on the market claim to help fade a tattoo or permanent makeup. While this claim might be anecdotal at best, you might find some results to be had for you.

  • Saline - There is professional treatment available by qualified technicians who inject a saline solution to draw the pigmentation out of the skin. This can take a few sessions to achieve the desired results.

Many people worldwide see significant benefits in choosing to have their makeup tattooed on their faces to help them save time and energy applying makeup and taking it off each day. If you decide to select your makeup tattoos onto your skin, make sure you are happy with the shade and application and placement on your body, be it eyebrows, lips, eyeliner, and more, before committing to having it carried out. Make sure you are happy with your technician and their skills by requesting previous reviews and images of work completed.
