How to Ship Jewelry Safely

Candy WashingtonComment

Hi lovelies,

Shipping valuable items can be stressful. Whether you are shipping jewelry to your customers or you are shipping it personally because you're moving house, you have to consider that jewelry is delicate and it's prone to damage. It's also pretty expensive, so you must consider how to protect it from being stolen.

Safely shipping jewelry so that it gets delivered in the right condition and is shielded away from those with bad intentions is important. You have to protect your jewelry as much as you can so that you can make sure that it arrives in one piece. Knowing how to pack jewelry items the right way is vital, if you want to protect them and prepare them for shipping. Before you start buying up packaging materials you have to really consider how you can keep your costs down. It's so easy to overdo it and go overboard with your packing, but you can avoid that. No matter how pretty the jewelry may be, we've got some ways that you can make sure it's packed and arrives at its destination without issue.

  • Start with cleaning it. Cleaning and securing your jewelry is vital before you do anything else. Once you've cleaned everything and they have dried, lay them on tissue paper or cotton and then place them into a clear plastic bag for safety. Wrapping it in tissue or cotton protects it from scratches, and the polybag gives that extra layer of protection that you might be looking for. It will also keep the jewelry in one place during the trip, and from here you can tape it closed.

  • Use decorative pouches. After you've moved your jewelry into a plastic bag, you can add a decorative pouch or a small jewelry box to protect it even further. Drawstring bags are a really good option here because they can be made from cotton, which is breathable for your jewelry. If you are a business owner, this is a specifically nice touch. You can then have your drawstring bags branded with your company name and people will know who the company is when they have received the package.

  • Use shipping boxes and wrap them securely. Wrapping the jewelry pouch in tissue and then placing it into a shipping box is important. You just have to make sure that the shipping boxes are the right size. You can also use bubble Mailer envelopes, because these are sound economical choices and they don't take up as much room. With smaller dimensions they are also cheaper to ship. If you're packing to move house, bubble bags are actually the preferred option because then you can pack those into other boxes and you will be able to maximize your packing space.

  • Get insurance. If you're moving house and bringing your jewelry with you, then you need to make sure that you have insurance. Insurance will help to cover you if something happens to jewelry along the way. Don't be stingy on this, because if your jewelry is valuable to you and even if it's a priceless piece, you need to protect it.
