Battle of the Sexes x L.A. Premiere

Emma-Stone-Battle-of-the-Sexes-Premiere-in-LA-September-16-2017-2-683x1024.jpg

Hi lovelies,

Last night I got to attend the star-studded L.A. premiere of Battle of the Sexes. Emma Stone looked flawless in platinum blonde hair and a sparkling silver outfit, while Steve Carrell looked distinguished in his dark suit.

Emma's performance as tennis legend, equal rights pioneer, and LGBQT advocate, Billie Jean King, was uncanny and you forget that you're watching Emma and you really feel as though you're watching Billie Jean in the 1970's.

Beyond the way she speaks and looks, Emma nails Billie Jean's signature walk and it was impressive how precise her tennis move were to mimic the legend's expertise.

IMG_4072.JPG

Steve's portrayal of Bobby Riggs showed the troubled gambler's life in a compassionate way. Revealing that he was more of a lost soul looking for meaning than a rambling bigot. Elizabeth Shue also gave a riveting performance as his patient yet fed-up wife.

Sarah Silverman gave a compelling performance and she made us laugh throughout the entire film with her endearing portrayal of Gladys Heldman.

But what really stole the show was the powerful speech that the real Billie Jean King gave prior to the movie. She told us about her journey and how she paved the way for women's professional tennis to exist today.

Billie Jean King is also inspiring us through her partnership with Citizen Watches. Both represent excellence, innovation, and ingenuity. You can get the full details on their perfect partnership below.

"CITIZEN, a pioneer in watchmaking and innovative technology since 1918, promotes excellence and creativity with a deep-rooted respect for craftsmanship. CITIZEN advocates “Better Starts Now,” searching for and accomplishing goals that better our lives. In this respect, CITIZEN aligns with organizations and personalities that reflect the values of the brand including the Billie Jean King Leadership Initiative, Citizen Naismith College Basketball Awards and National Merit Scholarship.

As a “citizen of the world” we bear the responsibility to help cultivate positive change and on-going evolution to our craft. For over 40 years, CITIZEN’s Eco-Drive technology has served as the prime example of how the brand is dedicated to making the world and its environment a better place.

A simple yet revolutionary concept, Eco-Drive harnesses the power of light from any natural or artificial light source and converts it into energy. Using a renewable natural resource instead of filling our landfills with discarded watch batteries.

Our name speaks to our belief of inclusion with a multi-cultural mindset to create timepiece that can be enjoyed by citizens all over the world."

Our fight for equal rights and equal pay continues to this day, but Battle of the Sexes is a must-see to inspire us to keep fighting the good fight, with love.

Hi lovelies,

With awards season in full swing, Emmys weekend is one of my favorite weekends to celebrate super talented actors, writers, producers, and directors in television.

Another one of my favorite events during awards season is the EcoLuxe Lounge Pre-Emmys Gifting Suite that is hosted and produced by the incomparable Debbie Durkin.

You can connect with amazing brands and give back to awesome charities.

Who are your favorite Emmys nominees this season?

CAA x Blackpills x Super High

EntertainmentCandy WashingtonComment

Hi lovelies,

The other night I had the pleasure of attending CAA's L.A. premiere of the Blackpills series Super High. Blackpills is a digital media company that is a pioneer in short scripted content.

The digital series is written and directed by Edouard Pluvieux and Kev Adams, who also stars along with YouTube star DeStorm Power and model Sarah McDaniel.

The premise of the breakout show is that this misfit team is able to fight crime after receiving super powers from magical weed. Although it might sound a bit far-fetched, the show is refreshingly funny and action-packed.

You can watch all 10 episodes of the first season starting on September 25 on Blackpills

Physique 57 x Platform LA x Sweaty Betty

Hi lovelies,

Just because summer is winding down, that doesn't mean that there's still not time to sweat it out!

That's why this past Saturday morning I worked out with the lovely ladies from Physique 57 at Platform LA located in Culver City. We got fit, toned, and lean to an amazing DJ while sporting the latest designs from Sweaty Betty.

After our awesome workout that included using our own body weight along with a small ball, we were treated to Dream Pops, Juice Served Here, Evolve Protein Smoothies, and more.

What I love most about Physique 57 is that you can book a workout class and join in-person, or you can stream workouts so you can get fit from the comfort of your own home or while you're traveling.

The black, blue, and floral design of my Sweaty Betty leggings motivated me to keep going! Who doesn't love looking cute while working out? Plus, the leggings are specially designed to help sculpt your bum, so two birds with one fashionable stone.

Let me know, how are you staying fit these days?

Jeeyo App x Candy Washington

EntertainmentCandy WashingtonComment

Hi lovelies,

What I love the most about social media is that I get to directly share my personal stories, ideas, and experiences with you all.

Connecting with you through your comments, questions, and DMs, is super fulfilling, but I've also found another way to connect and share with you all on a deeper level through the Jeeyo App.

If you haven't heard the scoop about the new social media app, then let me fill you in. The Jeeyo App lets you create and add a story about the topic of your choice, and then you can share it in the app for others to view and comment on.

You can gain also followers and follow your favorite accounts to grow your online community on Jeeyo and create a group of content creators around your common interests, passions, and activities.

But what sets Jeeyo a part from other social media platforms, is that other people can add their own pics and videos directly to your story to create a collaborative story that includes tips, advice, favorite things, top suggestions, personal experiences, recipes, fashion trends, and more, from multiple people on the app.

The topic and story ideas that you can share and add in Jeeyo are endless. You can decide who sees your content, how long your story is live, and if people can contribute to your story from a local or global level.

One of my favorite stories that I've shared on the Jeeyo App is what to wear to brunch and where to go to brunch. Based on that story that I shared, I discovered a cool new brunch spot in L.A. called Zinque thanks a story that a fellow Jeeyo App user added to my original story, and I can't wait to check it out!

The Jeeyo App is a great place to connect with others from around the world and discover new places, things, trends, events, and more. Sharing your own experiences is just the beginning, so don't forget to download the Jeeyo App here and let's start posting!

What I Did When I Wanted To Quit

Personal StoriesCandy WashingtonComment

Hi lovelies,

So I have a confession. A few months back I felt super stuck. Even though I'm passionate about what I do and I feel very grateful to be a full-time content creator, there are times that I feel uninspired, burnt out, and unsure of how to get motivated.

But after taking an honest look at my life and career, I took the following steps below to get my mojo back and reignite my creative juices.

So if you're like me and sometimes just need a break and a life refresh, then read on for a few ways to keep your light shining.

#1: I stopped.

Since I blog, do social media influence, and on-camera work full-time, I couldn't stop blogging 100%, but I did stop blogging just to blog. I took a step back and was more discerning about the brand partnerships that I accepted and I let go of the pressure of having to constantly be pushing out a ton of content.

I allowed myself to not like it. I admitted that I was burnt out with what had become a rat race of blogging for me. I let go of the guilt and shame that I felt of not liking my career choice, one that I had fought so hard to create and sacrificed so much to make work. I decided it was ok to want a break.

This freedom and time allowed me to focus on other things that also gave me joy and that I was passionate about, so when I returned to blogging, I was rejuvenated, refreshed, and ready to allow blogging to my familiar and comforting creative outlet like it was before.

#2: I went dark.

I took a social media break. I stopped being a slave to my phone and to my screens. I auto-mated my posts for awhile and then privately went dark. It was super refreshing to stop and look around, in real life, and appreciate all of the beauty and inspiration that's around me and not featured on someone's feed.

The social media detox allowed me to remember that it's not a competition and that it's a just a blog and it's just a few apps. Even though I'm pretty grounded, I'm still human, and it's easy to compare your journey to the journey of others or place too much importance in things rather than in your overall happiness, joy, and fulfillment.

#3: I started over.

Welcome to the NEW Actress with Style! I was so tired of coming to my same-old website, to the same photos, and the same design. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely proud of my blog and it had an awesome design, if-I-do-say-so-myself, but I wanted something new. I wanted a new look to reflect my own personal growth as an entrepreneur, as a content creator, as an on-camera talent, and as a woman.

So I woke one day and just redesigned my site. I didn't plan it out. I didn't create an editorial calendar. I don't have a stock pile of new content ready to roll out. I had nothing but a desire to revitalize my site and start over.

I broke down what areas I wanted to be influential in and have new experiences in. I wanted to challenge myself to start creating content that scared me and pushed me beyond my normal and comfortable topics of fashion, style, and beauty.

So I added a few new categories without any content to put in them because I no longer see my blog as a library of past experiences, but as a promise to myself, and to my readers, of all of the new and challenging experiences to come. I added in a Food & Travel category, because I want to try new restaurants and travel the world. I added in a Personal Stories category because I want to hold myself accountable to blog regardless of sponsorships and to write because it's my first love and to share fearlessly regardless of the pressure of judgment.

This allowed me to remember why I loved blogging in the first and why it remains a career worth fighting for. It reminded me that I owe it to all of you to stay present in the moment and to share from my authentic self. It also gave me permission to explore new avenues and experiences, to constantly challenge myself. I determine my journey, I'm not categorized by it.

Quickshoelace x Fall Fashion

StyleCandy Washington3 Comments

Hi lovelies,

Nothing says back-to-school, back-to-working-out, and fall into Fall fashion, than a new pair of shoes. So whether you're rocking a new pair of sneakers, Converse, combat boots, and everything in-between, the essential shoe accessory of the season is the Quickshoelace.

Quickshoelace are elastic laces that you simply stretch, clip, and go. You place a ring on one of the ends of the laces and then easily clip it to a metal piece to effortlessly lace your shoes.

Each pair comes with a set of 4 metal clips and my favorite colors are the solid black and the solid pink, but they come in over a dozen Basic colors that you can check out here, and even more Neon colors are available here.

But if you're like me and you're looking for statement laces with a fashion flair and metallic finish, then check out their Prestige lace collection here. These laces are so stylish that they are coated with 24-karat gold.

What I love most about the Quickshoelace is that you can quickly and easily update your look by simply switching up the color of your laces. You can revamp and upgrade any outfit by making a statement with your shoes.

Another style tip is to mix-and-match the color of your shoelaces for an added fashion twist. I love mixing a metallic color with a neon color or a basic color with a neon color, but the options for mixing and matching are endless.

Let me know how you wear your laces below!
