New York, NY – January 9-11, 2011: The quintessential fashion item that every girl needs in her wardrobe is, of course, the perfect pair of jeans. Dress them up or dress them down — the perfect pair is truly a girl’s best friend. If you’re in the market for a new pair with a fresh silhouette or are looking to branch out from the standard denim staples like J Brand, Hudson and 7 For All Mankind, then read on for some up-and-coming denim designers and trends that stood out during this season’s Intermezzo and Accessorie Circuit trade shows in New York City.
One hot new label that is leading the denim pack is Denimocracy, which boasts celebrity fans like Hilary Duff, Jessica Alba and Christina Aguilera. As if this label’s name wasn’t catchy enough, these duds retail for under $100, so you can be frugal and fashionable at the same time. Their signature silhouette is the Anarchy Benatar that comes in jet black with a wax finish. Denimocracy’s most popular fashion find is the French Terry Skinny Jeggings. These ultra-comfy denim-meets-legging jeans comes in an array of colors like blue, yellow, red, pink, gray and black. If you’re looking for more fashion flair, you can opt for a pair of these jeggings that are embellished with side zippers and darker washes. Denimocracy also carries the ever popular cargo pant. You can choose from stretch twill or stretch sateen fabrications. However, my top pick from this particular collection is the form-fitting riding pant which is a modern take on a preppy classic.

Don’t fret if skinny jeans and jeggings just aren’t your thing, or if you’re looking to revamp your denim options and still be in style. The new wave of denim is all about That ’70s Show. Denim designers from Genetic Denim, Level 99 and Blank proved that the laissez-faire groove of the ’70s is back in a big way. These labels displayed high-waist jeans in much lighter washes — an epic homage to the traditional retro chick. The fit ranges from straight to wide-legged, a departure from the super-skinny look we see in jeggings and the cargo pant. Even Joe’s Jeans and !It Jeans were on board for this denim revival.
Jean and cargo shorts are not to be counted out either. Both made their way to the racks this season, and I even saw a cargo Bermuda short at Blank’s booth.
So when it comes to denim, pick a cargo pant in a funky new colorway, a jegging with a zipper or metal embellishment, and a high-waisted jean in a faded blue wash… you can even throw in a classic black or chocolate brown riding pant for an even more polished look.
