WELCOME TO HOW TO MONETIZE YOUR PODCAST

Here’s an easy-to-follow guide on how to
start making money while sharing your message.

Let’s take the stress out of monetizing your podcast.

Whether you’re just starting out or if you’ve been steadily building up your audience, there are a few fun and easy ways to turn your passion into profit.

Use the helpful guide below to boost your confidence and create a strategy to start monetizing your podcast today!

#1: Mindset Shift
The first and probably the most important aspect of creating a profitable podcast, or any business, is cultivating an abundant and self-affirming mindset.

This means believing that you are worthy of success, your message is meaningful, and that your content is valuable.

Your value and worth comes from within, so you’re not waiting for any external validation whether it be the number of downloads, reviews, or some brand offering to sponsor you to feel as though you deserve to be compensated for the value that you add to your audience's lives.

#2: Build Your List | Generate Leads

Owning your audience is one of the most crucial elements of building a self-sustaining business. One of my favorite platforms that I use to grow my email list and cultivate an engaged audience is Flodesk.

If your podcast, Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube got shut down tomorrow, would you have a tangible way to still connect to your audience?

That’s why building your email list is so important, it helps you to connect with your audience, sell your stuff, and promote your brand.

During your podcast episodes, offer a free guide, audio file, helpful list, newsletter, or just something that your audience would find meaningful in exchange for their email address.

Be sure to link to the free offer in your show notes while also doing a call-to-action within the episode itself.

This can have immediate results but it will definitely have profitable long-term results as you build your list and sell your products and services.

#3: Become Your Own Sponsor | Sell Some Stuff

Instead of promoting other people’s products, brands, and services, create and sell your own. This is paramount in building a sustainable business and profitable personal brand.

The upside to this is that you get to keep 100% of the profits instead of 5-15% of the commission or lump sum fee you would make promoting sponsored ads on your podcast.

During your podcast episodes, offer your stuff:

  • Online Courses

  • Coaching Services

  • Consulting Services

  • Merchandise: t-shirts, mugs, hoodies, journals, hats, tumblers, etc.

  • Mobile App

  • Ebooks / Books / Guides

  • Professional Services

  • Access to Community

    • Patreon

    • Subscription Packages + Content Tiers

You can even offer an exclusive discount code just for podcast listeners.

Be sure to link to your products and services in your show notes, including discount codes if you have any,  while also doing a call-to-action within the episode itself.

A few easy ways to promote your stuff on your podcast:

  • Call-to-Action: Remind your listeners of your products and services at the beginning, middle, and end of your episode

  • Bake in the results that your clients are getting using your products and services into the episode itself or remind your listeners how your products and services are helpful concerning the subject of the episode

  • Create an official ad for your products and services and insert it into the podcast episode like you would a sponsored ad

#4: Affiliate Links

Place affiliate links in your podcast show notes to products, brands, and services that will not only offer discounts (aka value) to your listeners, but they will also provide commission (aka money) for every purchase made using your affiliate link or unique discount code.

This doesn’t have to be something that you specifically are referencing in your podcast episode, but it could be evergreen products and services that you can promote time and time again regardless of the podcast theme or episode.

Examples of this could be linking to your Amazon Storefront of your favorite things, the software, and hardware that you use to create your podcast, relevant products and services to the theme of your podcast, or that you use in your day-to-day life.

Usually, there will be affiliates and referrals available on the websites or user accounts of the products and services that you use, but you can always reach out to them directly to see if they will offer you a unique affiliate link or code that you can offer your audience.

#5: Offer Subscription Services

On the majority of podcasting platforms from Apple Podcasts, Podbean, Castos, to Spotify, you can create subscription-based content that your listeners pay a monthly fee to have access to.

You can also build your community and offer different tiers of support on Patreon and start receiving monthly revenue from your audience.

Types of content that you can offer in your monthly subscription:

  • Premium Content

  • Exclusive Content

  • Early Access Content

  • Archived Content

  • Ad-Free Content

  • Live-Streamed Q&A’s

  • Interviews with Special Guests

  • Content Upgrades (ex. a downloadable PDF or audio file that is specifically relevant to

This is a great way to offer your listeners an added way to support you and your podcast while making them special with the curated content.

#6: Borrow Audiences

Leverage your podcast to book yourself on other podcasts, speaking engagements, summits, conferences, YouTube shows, etc.

Simply being a podcast host has value in and of itself. It positions you as an expert within your industry and is an easy way for you to share value with your audience.

Once you’ve booked other podcast shows and speaking engagements, use it as an opportunity to promote your podcast along with your other products and services.

Don’t be afraid to start small or at your level. Research other podcasts and shows that might be open to partnering with shows with a similar following or aim big and pitch yourself to these shows regardless of audience size.

You can also partner with other content creators to host events, webinars, Q&As, and Masterminds.

But don’t be afraid to host events on your own as well. Ask your listeners to join and invite their friends too. You can even offer special gifts or discounts for those listeners to invite others to join.

#8: Repurpose Your Content
Convert your podcast into a YouTube Podcast and get paid through Google Adsense if your YouTube channel is monetized which should be easy to do the more you post.

Don’t forget that you can transcribe or repurpose your podcast episodes into ebooks, tangible books, and guides that you can then sell on your website, podcast, social media channels, and even on Amazon and Amazon Kindle.

Also repurpose your podcast content into shareable insights for your social media platforms from TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.

It’s also a great way to grow your audience and your podcast following.

Be sure to include all of your products, services, free offers, newsletter, and affiliate links in the description box of your videos and social media platforms as well.

#9: Turn Your Audience Into Affiliate Marketers

Offer unique links and discount codes that your listeners can use for special perks and incentives for sharing your content, podcast, products, and services.

This is an easy way to not only grow your audience organically via word-of-mouth marketing, but it’s also a great way to generate more income by turning your listeners into brand ambassadors that are incentivized to buy and promote your products.

Incentives could include a percentage of sales, a special gift, a special shout-out on the podcast, or access to exclusive time with you, like an appreciation group video call with your brand ambassadors.

#10: Ask For Donations

It might sound weird, but you can simply ask your audience to show their support by donating to your podcast.

There shouldn’t be any shame or embarrassment in offering your listeners a direct way to support you and your show that they find value in.

Ways to receive donations include CashApp, Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, Buy Me a Coffee, Amazon Wish Lists, sign-up for a Stripe account and create a donation form, set up a GoFundMe campaign for a simple collection page, and more.

Remember, people want to support you in your journey, especially if you keep your call-to-actions grounded and authentic.

If you’re asking for donations so you can spend more time creating new episodes, buying new equipment, hiring some freelance help, or something else? Tell your audience that.

Once listeners are invested in where their money is going, they’re more likely to support your podcast.

Be sure to include these links in the show notes, description boxes, and use a call-to-action in your episodes.
