Hi lovelies,

Some people learn to become teachers. Others are born to do it. In this post, we take a look at some of the telltale signs that you were destined for a career in education from a very early age.

You Can’t Imagine Yourself Doing Anything Else
People who are born to become teachers often can’t imagine themselves doing anything else. They have a passion for it. Right from an early age, they see themselves in the role of an educator and it lasts all the way through childhood.

You Are More Interested In Results Than Money
Educators have another curious common trait: they’re much more interested in outcomes than they are money. Unlike many industries, teachers don’t rely on bonuses for good performance. Instead, they invest in their students, regardless of their salary.

You Can Put Yourself In Other People’s Shoes
Being able to put yourself in the shoes of your students is what marks great teachers apart from everyone else. They instinctively understand where students are getting stuck and what they need to do to unstick them.

You’ve Always Wanted To Make A Difference
Why do so many people apply for the Teach for America program every year? Simple: these are people who have always wanted to make a difference in their lives. Teaching is a profession that enables you to have an outsized impact on the next generation.

You Don’t Like Standard Tests
Standardized tests are a necessity in the public education system. But if you don’t like them, then you are probably a born educator. You instinctively know that teaching should not be geared towards test results. Instead, what matters is the individual skill that the student acquires. That’s ultimately the whole purpose of schooling.

You Don’t Like Grammar Mistakes
Grammatical mistakes are neither here nor there for most of us. Confusing “their” and “there” in a text message or email is no big deal.

But if you are a teacher, you understand the importance of correct grammar. You know that when people get it wrong, they are creating confusion and making an error that could cost them in the world of work.

You Like Helping Your Siblings
Many born educators get their start helping their siblings do their homework in the family home. You probably loved learning when you were younger and you were keen to make sure that your brothers and sisters did well too.

When you practice something as a child, you tend to be better at it as an adult. So those who develop pedagogic skills early in life are more likely to perform well later on.

People Tell You That You’re Great At Teaching
Teachers don’t just educate in the classroom. Instead, offering impromptu lessons to the people around them.

Having people tell you that you are a great teacher is a sure sign that that’s what you were meant to do with your life. If you’re able to cleverly explain complex topics to your friends, then you should seek ways to put that talent to use in real life. The children in your community could benefit.
