Etheria Film Festival Celebrates Women Directors
Hi lovelies,
Enjoy my latest article that was featured in Fashion Edits.
On July 12th, 2014 the Etheria Film Festival celebrated seven female directors in the horror, sci-fi, and fantasy genres with a screening of their short films with a red carpet ceremony and reception at the Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Blvd. Fashion Edits was on the scene to capture the fashion and wardrobe trends from each film and to walk the red carpet in style.
Dawn directed by Rose McGowan
Rose McGowan directed this short film about a young girl, Dawn, who meets high school drop out Charlie and her life is never the same. Set in the 1950's, Dawn wears spring dresses with slips and floral patterns. You can rock the look today by sporting a long floral skirt with a white cropped top.
Wakening directed by Danis Goulet
A lone woman searches the urban war zone for an ancient creature to help fight against the occupiers. Taking place in the future and on dangerous terrain, the leading lady looks fierce in a fitted army jacket, black skinny jeans, and combat boots. To make the look your own, skip the combat boots and pair the army jacket and jeans with a pair of your favorite heels for a more feminine look.
The Jelly Wrestler directed by Rebecca Thomson
Filmed in Australia, the leading ladies wear 80's work out clothes while they sweat and prepare for a big jelly wrestling competition at their local bar where they work. The 80's trend is back in a big way, wear leg warmers and shorts, neon and pop colors, one-shoulder tops, and hi-top sneakers.
Job Interview directed by Julia Walter
Set in Germany, Lisa applies for a job only to meet her match in her interviewer. Both women look professionally chic in blazers, button-ups, and skirts. For your next meeting or job interview, take a cue from the film and opt for less is more with neutral colors, navy blue, and nudes with tailored tops, suit jackets, and pencil skirts.
You Me & Her directed by Sarah Doyle
Winner of the “Audience Choice Award,” this film examines what happens when Anna meets 30 different versions of herself from parallel universes and it's time to make a change. The film uses fashion to elevate the story line - “Cautious Anna” wears rugged skinny jeans, flats, and a monotone top; “Streetwise Anna” wears denim cutoffs with a black top, and “Sassy Anna” wears a blue hipster dress with polka dots.
Dia de los Muetros directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero
This film is all about girl power – on the night of 'Dia de los Muertos' the women of a strip club exact revenge on the men who hurt them. Take a page from this film's wardrobe of sexy and sultry lingerie (which were empowering and not demeaning) for a special night with your special someone.
Hide and Seek directed by Kayoko Asakura
A young student seeks Koto lessons at the home of a troubled woman. She wears the school-girl look with a pleaded skirt, uniform navy blue top with white stripes and red scarf. As older as we may get, wearing the little school look never goes out of style but opt to wear this look on Halloween and at theme parties.
Etheria Film Festival also honored female director Lexi Alexander and was the home of the North American premiere of the drama, horror, and Gothic romance feature film, Soulmate directed by Axelle Carolyn.
