Coffee chat with Robert Galinsky: 7 Insights for building your brand and making connections
Hi lovelies,
I had the pleasure of grabbing coffee with social media expert, motivational speaker, author, and founder of New York Reality TV School and Kuhoots, Robert Galinsky.
Did I mention he's a coffee muse, TEDxTeen presenter, and is working on a hot new musical, "Coffee Crazy"? I picked up a few gems on how to build your online presence, personal brand, and build connections. Check them out below!
Robert's Top 7 Insights:
- Use the word, "I" rather than "you" when speaking about your work and accomplishments. It allows you to own your own experience and power, and people will respond to you differently.
- You will meet the best people and contacts at cocktail parties. Remember: on the nights that you don't want to go out are usually the ones that you end up meeting the most important people. (We met at the launch party of The Real Housewives of New York's Aviva Drescher's new book, Leggy Blonde.)
- Email people like a normal person - not like you are begging or pitching. Remember the value that you have to give.
- There's a lot of competition out there - laser in on what you uniquely offer. How do you stand out from the rest?
- If you want to pitch a TV show, start with creating your own mini viral videos - shoot them on your iPhone and then share on YouTube. They can serve as pilot versions of your show.
- Make sure to have a service behind whatever it is that you are selling - can your customer easily download, buy, or connect with your service?
- There's less of a stigma around "reality TV" these days, but be sure you know what your purpose is for doing a reality show - what's the end game? Where will it take you?
