TREND: LITTLE LEATHER JACKETS
Add a rocker edge to a sweet look this Fall
By Jessica Ciarla
Although PETA supporters may not be a fan of this new fashionable staple, the little leather jacket is going strong for Fall 2009 and will definitely be a must-have piece for your wardrobe. Taking the motorcycle jacket that was a hot item last season, designers are getting creative with new modern cuts and styles. Fabrics come in unique shades and textures, including charcoal grays, shiny metallics, luxurious rust and copper tones, along with exotic leathers that add a couture effect to the ready- to-wear designs. Casual styles are paired with summer dresses and evening gowns for a hard contrast to a dressed up look, and tailored coats are designed to be worn as a suit jacket alternative. However you look at it, these babies have come a long way from the 80’s.
Azzedine Alaia keeps things short and chic with little black leather boleros accompanying sexy black dresses and belts.
Phi adds some sparkle to a raglan sleeve, knit combination, leather jacket that will flatter any denim look or short mini.
Emporio Armani adds a twist to a “preppy school girl studying abroad” with a tailored leather jacket, mini skirt and knee-high stockings.
Donna Karan designs for the sophisticated woman who knows what she wants, as seen with this copper leather jacket that is appropriate for the society lady who is all business.
Taylor Momsen of "Gossip Girls" and fashionista Nicole Richie are huge fans of the look, pairing little leather jackets with over the top dresses.
Keep the cut clean and simple if you want to wear this jacket with many looks, as a snug fit will show off this season’s dramatic dresses.
